My name is Christopher Higgins, and I am The Apartment Guy, a man on a mission. Having attended a few too many boring real estate and apartment industry courses, in early 2003 I launched a firm dedicated to professional education in the multifamily and rental housing industries. My seminars are intended to make real estate professionals more productive, more successful, happier in their careers, and fully aware of the legalities and complexities of their work. My dynamic and different seminars are unique in that they are light but in-depth, engaging yet casual. Since forming The Apartment Guy, I have instructed thousands of industry professionals on a dozen different topics from marketing to fair housing, and have developed courses on sound investment strategy for the small property owner and how to invest in small to mid-size multifamily projects. I have been fortunate to work in diverse markets around the globe - from Houston to Anchorage, Winnipeg to Perth, Manchester to West Palm Beach.
My 17 years of industry experience includes on-site, vendor, corporate and entrepreneurial positions. I started an apartment magazine in my small West Texas town while a junior in high school. I earned my Texas Real Estate license at the age of 18 and began to teach brokers to effectively market properties and new construction in a tough economy. While attending college, I grew my apartment magazine business to 6 publications around the state of Texas. At age 23, I became the Director of Marketing and Training at a N.A.H.B. Top-50 Houston-based multifamily developer and was responsible for advertising campaigns, leasing agent training and all marketing functions. I have also worked as an industry vendor, serving as the National Accounts Manager and Market Development Director for two Internet apartment search sites.
I own a small property management firm providing value-added services to investors and manage my own multifamily communities and rental homes in Florida, Missouri, Montana, and Saskatchewan. I have leased, managed, marketed, and renovated rental housing. I speak at various national, state and local trade shows. I have had numerous articles appearing in magazines such as Units, Texas Apartments and The Multifamily Professional. I received my education in the competitive real estate program of the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, hold a Master's from Tulane University in New Orleans and am a two-time graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course. I am a licensed real estate salesperson in Montana, Alaska and Florida. Most importantly, I love the rental housing industry and I work hard to help others achieve the success that I have. My seminars, keynotes and webinars are each designed to educate, motivate and elevate rental housing and apartment professionals.
